Our founder and lead designer, Victor Hugo Cruz, was originally inspired to create a bike that was both classic in design but also one that included the leading e-bike technology. Keeping the technology so well hidden that no one would know it was electric.

RAISED IN BROOKLYN

Eight years later, after selling thousands of bikes and helping our riders explore millions of miles (and kilometers) on two wheels, we looked to expand our global footprint.

Vela began its next chapter in Brooklyn, NY but the essence of the brand remains the same.

As Vela established itself as a premier global design-focused e-bike brand crafted in local production facilities in Sao Paulo and Detroit.

Borrowing from the Portuguese word for sail or candle. Vela represents natural movement and power.
